Elisia Poelman Belgian, b. 1997

It’s not about how things look, or how they should look.
Not about painting a picture or crafting an image.
It’s about how something once looked—felt—
before the world told us what it was.
Before the names, before the categories, before the noise.

It’s about touching something ethereal,
the raw edge of perception.
Tapping into something older than memory,
something that exists beyond language and form—
that primal energy humming through everything.

To create from this place is not to depict, but to remember.
To remember the thing behind the thing.
The feeling before the thought.
The symbol before the word.

Primarily working with painting, Elisia continues to explore and experiment with her materials. In recent years, she has expanded her practice through digital iPad drawings and ceramics, discovering how new gestures and materials can bring fresh dimensions to her work.
